Het is weekend. Dit weekend is de finale van het EK. Wat een feest. En wat een schitterend affiche ook. Portugal tegen Frankrijk, jongens, daar kun je alleen maar van dromen. Tenminste, als je uit Portugal of Frankrijk komt. Kijk, zo'n toernooi is toch leuk als je eigen land het wint, maar het is geen 1988 meer, mensen. Accepteer dat nu eens. Dat was een eenmalige fluke. Een statistische anomalie. Geniet van de herinneringen, het zal nooit weer gebeuren. Het aantal variabelen dat precies in de juiste volgorde op precies de juiste wijze dienen te verlopen is te groot. Van microniveau, als in een bal die net een polletje raakt en daarmee de hele loop van de wedstrijd en dus het toernooi bepaalt, tot macroniveau, als in beslissingen die worden genomen in bij de KNVB, de clubs, ouders over hun talent, en ga zo maar door. Er moet te veel te vaak en te constant goed gaan om een Europees Kampioenschap voor Nederland te produceren. De kans is groter dat u geraakt wordt door de bliksem terwijl een haai u aanvalt en alsnog komt te overlijden door een vallende kokosnoot. Kortom, geniet van de komende finale als neutrale toeschouwer. En wen aan die toestand. Prettig weekend. En be nice.
