Het gaat steeds sneller. Alles raast voorbij.
Alleen de dood, die komt gestaag langszij.
Toch spreek je nog wel van je jongeheer.
Al sta je elk jaar krommer in je jas
En ook al word je door de tijd wat kaal
Een pijntje hier, een zucht, een vage kwaal...
Het heerschap wil nog door dat groene gras.
De onbezorgde goddelijke pracht,
Je kijkt ernaar, en naar je klokkenspel.
Het doet niet meer wat je ervan verwacht.
Je zere rug, de vlekken in je vel
Je jonge IK heeft nog aan je gedacht
en stuurt een kaart: de groeten en vaarwel
